January Events in Traverse City

To put it mildly, there is something for everyone coming up in the month of January up here in the frozen north. Northern Michigan has a way of rolling out the red carpet for the new year in the form a diverse range of fun, unique, and of course wine-related activities. From live music acts, plus wine and food celebrations, to racing fat bikes at one of the premiere resorts in the country, there are so many reasons to plan a weekend wine trip to Traverse City this January.

New Years Eve in Traverse City

CherryT Ball Drop: There are few better places to ring in the new year than in downtown Traverse City with the CherryT Ball Drop. All of downtown shuts down to accommodate the party, as Front St. transforms into a mini Times Square. Starting at 9pm, enjoy live music, dancing, and an exhilarating atmosphere until the cherry drops and the fireworks go off to ring in 2017. If you want to get in on this free event, head to the CherryT Ball Drop website to get the details.

New Years Eve at Taproot: If you want the vibes of the CherryT Ball Drop, but prefer to enjoy those vibes indoors where it’s a bit warmer, Taproot Cider House is hosting a New Years Cherry Drop Party. For $80, party-goers will receive a Tapas Trio dinner, two (delicious) cocktails, and a champagne toast to drink in the new year. Located at the corner of Front and Park, you’ll be in prime position to see all the action of the Cherry drop festivities in the warmth of the cider house, plus enjoy the added bonus of a drink in your hand. Seating is limited. Give them a call at 231.943.2500 to reserve your seats.

WOMP Winter Warm Up

A cold, Northern Michigan winter demands two things – wine and comfort food. Fortunately for us, the Wineries on Old Mission Peninsula have an event to give our souls exactly what they need. The Winter Warm Up is a collective effort by many of the restaurants and wineries on Old Mission to come together for a day of perfect pairings of wine and food that will warm your hearts, souls, and bodies. You can find out a bit more about the event here. (PS – Don’t get caught on the Peninsula a little tipsy and without a ride!)

Leelanau Wine Trail’s Sips and Soups

The Leelanau wineries hosts a day of equally delicious fun just a week later. Sips and Soups pairs two of the most infallible inventions of man; wine and soup. Local restaurants will help provide the wineries with top quality soups to match impeccable wines to enjoy all day long. You can learn more about the event here. We’ll again encourage you to contact us about a ride, as the last thing you want is to have to deal with the stress of the snowy roads as you try to enjoy the day.

Short’s Brewing Fat Bike Series Crystal Mountain

If you like beer and the outdoors, get on a fat bike and head to Crystal Mountain January 21st. The race, officially named Fat Chance!, is the first stop of the Short’s Fat Bike Series that has races across Northern Michigan all winter long. Racing begins and 12pm. Short races are less than an hour and a long race lasts about 90 minutes. If you’ve never been to Crystal Mountain, it’s about time you head that way. Crystal was recently named the second best ski resort in the U.S. and Canada by Liftopia. As if the title sponsor of the series was any indication, there will be plenty of Short’s brews on hand for spectators and for the racers to celebrate their accomplishments. You can learn more about this event and the rest of the series on their website.
