Traverse City Wineries: Mari Vineyards

Mari Vineyards:

Traverse City’s Newest Tasting Room

Very soon, we’ll have a new stop available on our Old Mission tours, and we haven’t been this excited for a new tasting room in a long, long time. In fact, all of Traverse City has been talking about the construction on Center Road, the winemaker in town with the Italian last name, and the exciting new tastes that Mari Vineyards will have up their sleeves for us. As wine enthusiasts, we love exploring new Traverse City wineries, and a new venue close to home on the base of Old Mission Peninsula is the perfect opportunity to share what’s new in Traverse City with our guests.

Award Winning Wine on Old Mission

While their tasting room won’t open until June, the folks at Mari Vineyards have been making wine on Old Mission since way back in 1999. Growing an assortment of grapes that are rarely found in Michigan, Marty Lagina and his team are now producing a variety of red wines that are unique to the region, and as a result, will make a tasting at their establishment unlike any other stop on any Old Mission or Leelanau wine tour.

It’s almost something of a pre-requisite at this point, but if you’re going to have a tasting room on Old Mission Peninsula, you’re going to need to win a few awards with your wine so that you fit in. Mari Vineyards has met these expectations already, of course, most recently winning Best Michigan Dry Red with their 2012 Praefectus vintage.
