Discover the Best of Good Harbor Vineyards on Leelanau Peninsula
The Story of Good Harbor Vineyards
Located just a few miles Northwest of Lake Leelanau and just a few miles Southwest of Leland, is the amazing Good Harbor Vineyards. You may not have heard of them because they are located a bit off of the beaten path, but they’ve been producing award-winning wine for almost 40 years now and they were actually the fourth winery established on Leelanau Peninsula. This vineyard is located just 35 minutes from Traverse City and trust us it’s one you don’t want to miss on your next Leelanau Peninsula wine tour with us!
After almost 40 years of business, Good Harbor has 100 acres of vineyard and manages hundreds of acres around the peninsula as well. We learned this winery is now operated by the second generation, siblings Sam and Taylor Simpson, with “hopes of continuing the family legacy and helping with the growth of the Michigan wine industry.” We also learned Good Harbor Vineyards focuses on producing high-quality wines at an affordable price and after tasting their wines and buying a few bottles, we’d have to say they are doing a pretty great job at keeping that promise!
The Tasting Room at Good Harbor Vineyards
Located right off of M-22 you’ll find their adorable and cozy tasting room. It’s large enough to host bigger groups in the winter and also has a wonderful patio come the warmer seasons! They have an awesome tasting here, offering a one-time tasting fee of $6. This means your tasting includes a souvenir glass, and trust us you’ll want to hold on to this one because you can bring your glass back on any return visit and taste up to four wines free of charge! They allow a taste once a day for the life of your glass. How awesome is that!?
On the other side of the tasting room, there are some viewing windows for you to look down into their wine cellar and take a look at their barrels of wine.
It is pretty awesome to witness this process all while sipping a glass of Good Harbor wine.
The Wine at Good Harbor Vineyards
There are currently over 20 wines to taste in their tasting room. They have a very extensive list that ranges from dry to sweet, so everyone can find something they enjoy. Their best sellers are their Fishtown White, Trillium, Cherry Wine and Harbor Red. Our personal favorites were the Chardonnay, Rose, Labernet and Fishtown White! They call their Rose adult kool-aid and you just have to get in there to try because it is so so good! They also have a couple of ciders on tap right now if you enjoy hard cider- a peach cider and a cinnamon cider. Take a look at their labels, we love how unique they are and how they use local artists for all of them.
