Traverse City Wineries: 2 Lads Winery

Traverse City Wineries: A Look Inside 2 Lads Winery

Distinct Taste Through Innovation

2 Lads Winery is a unique winery on Old Mission Peninsula. Their wines have distinct aromas and textures, and the taste is easily distinguishable from other wineries from near and far. Much of this is due to the innovative approach they take to making their wines. They use their multi-level building to its fullest, by using gravity to move and filter their wine, rather than pumps. This makes sure the important compounds aren’t disturbed by traditional pumps and invasive filters commonly found in the wine making process. These techniques also allow 2 Lads to produce their wines while consuming less energy, and producing less noise pollution. Less energy consumption and less noise means their stunning location overseeing East Bay remains beautiful and tranquil for all of their quests.

A Destination Tasting Room

When included on one of our tours, the experience of tasting at 2 Lads always sets itself apart for our guests. The tasting room itself is modern and minimalist, but with color and signature touches that make the facility a simply wonderful place to be. The view of East Bay is stunning year round, and the space is perfectly warmed in the cooler months by the sun coming in through the large bay windows. The staff is stereotypically Northern Michigan – kind, welcoming and extremely knowledgable about their wine! Our tour groups routinely stay at 2 Lads longer than they anticipated because of the small plates prepared by 2 Lads – delicious food, served in perfect portions for wine tasting.

2 Lads Winery and Your Tour

2 Lads has an exceptional location, and an innovative approach to making wine that will have a noticeable effect on your tasting experience. If you want to see the eco-friendly approach to wine making of the future, a tour and tasting at 2 Lads is right up your alley. As a white wine fan myself, I highly recommend tasting the 2013 Pinot Grigio if possible. Smooth on the tongue with a dry finish, it’s a favorite of many Northern Michigan locals. If you’re into reds, 2 Lads has their flagship 2013 Cabernet Franc. There isn’t a better wine to display the taste difference in their innovative wine making techniques than this, as the texture is full, the hints of dark cherry and vanilla, are clear, but it remains a light and not overbearing. Truly, it’s a red wine masterpiece wine enthusiasts everywhere can enjoy!
