A Bit About The Filling Station

Few things in this world bring joy to people in equal measures of simplicity and deliciousness than the combination of beer and pizza. In this universally approved and accepted pairing, the folks at The Filling Station Microbrewery have created an establishment so proficient at making such exceptional beer and perfect pizza that there’s really no other place in Traverse City that comes close in terms of quality and taste.

Add in the other little things that make The Filling Station such a cool place and you have more than enough reasons to add this to your Traverse City brewery tour.

The Beer and Pizza

Before we get into the atmosphere of The Filling Station, we need to mention the beer and the pizza, which are, in short, out of this world. Their beer menu is extensive, with all sorts of different styles to sample. Having tried more than a few of these personally, I’d suggest giving the Huntington IPA and the Union Brown Ale a try. The Huntington has become my go to at The Filling Station, but they’re all more than worthy of sampling on your brew tour.

As I alluded above, these guys do pizza extremely well. Their flatbread pizzas are the perfect combination of ingredients – not too much of anything, and just enough of the rest. The Cock O’ the Walk pizza, a delectable combination of roasted chicken, artichokes, roasted tomatoes, and mozzarella, pairs extremely well with the Walla Walla IPA. Check out their food menu to see which pizza or salad selection would suit you and your touring party best during your stop.

The Atmosphere

To compliment the incredible food and beer is an atmosphere unlike most places you’ll find in Traverse City or anywhere else. Located in an old train depot, there’s an outdoor patio on what was the boarding platform of the train station. Just across the tracks is a community garden, complete with blooming flowers and a host of other plants, that grows on the Traverse City District Library property. A view of students learning to sail on Boardman Lake is common throughout the summer months. The outdoor seating and outdoor stage are covered and even heated, ensuring you can enjoy the views from late spring through fall. Weekly live performances of Traverse City’s best local talent is always worth checking out.

Why You Should Add The Filling Station to Your Tour

Located just a few blocks from downtown, The Filling Station is an easy addition to your brew tour. Away from the hubbub and traffic downtown, it might be an ideal final stop to relax, get some great food, and savor the end of an incredible afternoon or evening in Traverse City.
