Visit Verterra Winery in the Adorable Town of Leland
Just 40 minutes North of Traverse City you’ll find the adorable town of Leland. Leland is known for its art and wine festivals, cute shops, good food, and great golfing-but is mostly known as one of the only working commercial fishing villages in the state of Michigan. Hence how it got its nickname “Fishtown.” But to top it all off, there is a great winery right in the town of Leland and that’s the wonderful Verterra Winery.
The Tasting Room at Verterra Winery
Located just a few steps away from Lake Michigan is the tasting room for Verterra Winery. You can spend the morning hiking around the area, have lunch and then make your way over to the tasting room to try out some of their award-winning wine!
The Wine at Verterra Winery
We recently enjoyed a tasting at Verterra and had a pretty tough time deciding what to try because everything sounded great and a lot of them have won awards. They are most popular for their Sparkling Rose, Reserve Chaos Red and their Dry Riesling (it won Gold for the past 2 years!) Our personal favorites were the Unoaked Chardonnay and the Rose of Cab Franc.
If you have any cider lovers in your group make sure you bring them along! Verterra also has a cider family called Chaos Ciders. You can choose from apple, peach, blackberry or raspberry cider.
The Ridge at Verterra Vineyard

So, what is The Ridge!? If you happen to be visiting in the summer months Tuesday-Thursday you can visit the Verterra Vineyards. The tasting room we talked about earlier is just where they serve their wine but there are no vines here. To see them, you’d have to make the 10 minutes drive up to Northport to see them at The Ridge. Here you will receive the “Old World” wine experience on the beautiful terrace. You’ll experience some of the best views in Northern Michigan all while enjoying wine flights and snacks all for $20 per person!
The ridge is only opened Tuesday-Thursday in the summer months because they host gorgeous events on the weekends!
How Do I get to Verterra Winery?
Here is the best part! Don’t worry about driving the 40 minutes to the tasting room, call us! We will pick you up from your Traverse City area hotel or rental, 7 days a week. Then we will drive you up to Verterra to enjoy their wonderful wine and views.
